Description
First flying in 1949, the Gemini was one of the earliest successful commercial helicopter designs, as a result of using the newly-developed gas-turbine power plant. Powered by 2 400shp Atlas turboshafts, it could carry 12 passengers and their luggage at speeds of up to 150kts. The distinctive long landing gear was needed to ensure that the long, intermeshing rotors could not strike the ground during startup and shutdown.
